Denis’ Story

This film explores Filipinos on Kodiak in the early 1900s through the international migratory story of Denis Rodill, who served as a cannery worker in Larsen Bay in the summer of 1915. This film was shot and produced by 12th grader Olivia as part of the Kodiak’s Filipino Community Stories project, a collaborative effort between the Baranov Museum, the Filipino American Association of Kodiak, the Kodiak Island Borough School District, and Media Action.

This project was supported in part by a grant from the Alaska Humanities Forum and the National Endowment for the Humanities, a federal agency. Any view, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed herein do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
