Meet our *New* Education Programs Manager

See Stories is proud to welcome new members to the See Stories team! We will be featuring our newest members here on website and on our socials. First up, is our new Education Programs Manager!
My name is Seth Bader, and I am excited by the opportunity to join the See Stories team as the new Education Programs Manager. I have been in Alaska since 2018 after moving up from Washington State, and currently live in Juneau on Lingít Aaní (Tlingit land). I have taught science in classrooms ranging from the old growth forests, intertidal zones, and at high schools between Washington and Alaska for the past 10 years. I’m thrilled to bring my passion for teaching into this position, and will be focusing on managing our multi-week digital storytelling workshops in villages and communities around Alaska, and expanding programming into the greater Southeast Alaska region. Having worked with and taught students from all around Alaska, I am so excited to get to visit places I have heard so much about from my students.

After working with Alaska Native youth for the past several years, including teaching at Mt. Edgecumbe Highschool in Sitka, I have witnessed the significance that empowering youth with a platform to share stories meaningful to them can have. I love that See Stories provides access for Alaskan youth to learn new skills that can help them share their stories. See Stories programs encourage the next generation to honor the past while looking toward the future, and I feel extremely blessed to be able to share my love of teaching and working with young-adults with this program.
When not working, I spend most of my time outside exploring the waters and mountains around Southeast Alaska with my wife and our dog, Trout. We love living here because there are so many things to do depending on the weather and time of year; usually we will be skiing, fishing, boating, paddling, fishing, or hunting somewhere in the woods.
Spending time connecting with people outside has created my most meaningful relationships in life, and I am working on a program with the goal of connecting young adults with nature. In addition to working for See Stories, I am also a founder and Education Director for Fathoms Alaska, a wilderness program with a focus on environmental science education for adolescents and young adults. In the summer, I spend time leading 10-21 day paddling trips on the inside waters around Wrangell, and on the Stikine River.
