Education in the North Slope: Harold Sigvan Kaveolook
Harold S. Kaveolook was a successful educator who began a grassroots movement in the village of Kaktovik. Get a closer look at a history of rural education in the North Slope of Alaska and the value of growing local teachers who are raised in the culture and language of the Inupiaq people.

Anchored Histories provides professional development for Alaskan educators and professionals who work with youth in how to engage their students in primary source material. Funded by The Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources Program.
Workshop Info
In this professional development course, educators received comprehensive support to engage students in documentary filmmaking. Participants learned how to utilize primary sources from the Library of Congress and incorporated local resources such as Elder interviews, artifacts, photos, and documents. This training equipped teachers with the tools to create enriching, historically grounded educational experiences through the art of documentary filmmaking.
