Tlingit Language Revitalization

These short documentaries are productions of students from Yaakoosge Daakahidi High School during the “Exploring Culture & Identity through Media Arts”, a two-week long all-day arts intensive, led by Seth Bader. During this culture-themed filmmaking workshop, participating students choose topics based on aspects of their cultural stories, interviewing culture bearers and community members.

This film unfolds as interviewees delve into the profound significance of their native language. Participants share heartfelt reflections on what their ancestral language means to them, emphasizing its role in shaping identity and fostering a profound sense of connection. Interviewees express their hopes for the future of their linguistic heritage, underscoring the importance of respect and the necessity of preserving and passing on their language for a genuine understanding of who they are.
