My Mom, My Inspiration

This film tells the story of a student whose mother immigrated from Laos to the United States during the Vietnam War. Through the student’s perspective, the film highlights her mother’s bravery and resilience in overcoming challenges to provide a better life for her children. It showcases her mother’s dedication and hard work, emphasizing the sacrifices made and the inspiration she provides to her family through her strength and determination.

This film was created in an after-school course for East High School English Language Learner students. Students received professional guidance from Story Works and See Stories to create short cultural films and stories on topics ranging from boxing to cooking, and from family stories to fasting for Ramadan. This project was generously funded by the Alaska State Council on the Arts Cultural Heritage Grant, East High School, and the Anchorage School District.
