Growing Up in Stebbins

“Growing Up in Stebbins” recounts the childhood memories and life stories of Becky Atchak and Minnie Aluska, two of Stebbins’s veterans and seasoned teachers. Photographs and videos of the place from the early 60s to the present capture how Stebbins started from a small village to how diverse and thriving it is now. This film features the prominent places in the village which includes the native store, post office, and the water tank as well as the school which played a big role in developing the Stebbins’s youth from various generations.

This film was created at See Stories’ Professional Development Retreat for Educators in Homer Alaska, June 2024 as part of the Digital Storytelling as a Culturally Responsive Teaching Tool course.
