Haines Girls Basketball
I’ve lived in Haines, Alaska, my whole life with my parents and my sister, though I was born in Juneau. I love hiking and being outside, which is why Haines is such a special place to me. My film is about Haines Girls Basketball and how it brings the community together, especially during home games in the winter. Basketball has always been a big part of my life—I grew up in the gym watching games, knowing I’d play one day. The film includes interviews with Brian Elliott, Ari’el Godinez-Long, Fran Daly, and Coleman Stanford, who share their stories about the team. Editing the film was the hardest part because it took so long, but I loved hearing everyone’s experiences and learning more about what basketball means to Haines. I think people should watch it because it tells a story about the struggles and successes of girls basketball and how it’s more than just a sport here.
