Cooperative Living in Alaska: Stories of Safehaven

Film by Sarah Cronick

“Cooperative Living in Alaska: Stories of Safehaven” paints a picture of what cooperative living looks like in one of Alaska’s only co-ops. Drawing from the wisdom of current residents, this film highlights some of the aspects that set cooperative living apart from other modern models of living, such as single-family homes, apartments, and condos. It demonstrates the importance and value of living in a community and makes the case for why we need more of it.

This film was created at See Stories’ Professional Development Retreat for Educators in Homer Alaska, in June 2024 as part of the Digital Storytelling as a Culturally Responsive Teaching Tool course.
