See Stories is proud to present the 2023 See Stories Summit. On May 4th, See Stories will host a one-day Summit with the theme, “How to Live Our Mission.” This will be a time we will bring together all those in our See Stories community who are invested in our mission to build inclusive communities with film and story and celebrate our work and contribute to our vision for the future. This is an event for See Stories Board members, staff, partners, students, funders and anyone who have been touched or inspired by See Stories to gather together to discuss how See Stories can better serve youth and educators in Alaska through our arts and culture activities.

See Stories started as a small social-justice oriented nonprofit in 2019 that has grown increasingly more in our vision of building inclusive communities with film and story in communities throughout Alaska. Recently, we  have expanded programming in South East Alaska, as well as continuing to serve communities through rural Alaska. We want to make sure to stay grounded in our sense of what it means to succeed and what it means to grow in the voices of our community.

These conversations will be facilitated by January O’Connor from Raven’s Group, whom is partnering with us for this Summit. The Summit will be followed by a one-day See Stories Board and Staff Retreat through which January will guide See Stories through a strategic planning process for the year 2024.  January O’Connor is an experienced grant writer, project evaluator and Alaska-certified, masters-level teacher. January also has extensive experience working with youth in a wide variety of environments such as mentoring, mental health, psychiatry and education. Being trained and skilled in leadership, we are over the moon for her partnership and contribution to this summit and the vision of See Stories. 

The See Stories Summit will also be emcee’d by collaborator and podcaster Alice Qannik Glenn, as well as feature a special performance by collaborator and hip-hop artist Tayy Tarantino. There will also be raffle prizes and a silent auction from local partners and supporters. We are currently looking for donations for our silent auction and would love your support! The Summit and Retreat will be held at the BP Energy Center in Anchorage on Thursday May 4th, 2023 from 3pm-7:30pm and is open to all supporters, past and current participants, partners, members, and funders of See Stories!
